Comment Masaru Kohno (1926~1998) isone of the most well-known luthier in Japan who’s got the worldwide reputation among the other legendary guitar makers. He was born in Mito city, Japan. In 1948, he graduated from Tokyo College of Arts and Crafts. While studying woodcraft, he became interested in and started making guitars. In 1960 he decided to go to Spain to learn more about traditional Spanish guitar like Antonio de Torres and Arcangel Fernandez. From early 60’s, when he established his own workshop in Tokyo, his guitars gained recognition among Japanese guitarists quickly. In 1967 he was awarded the Gold Medal at the Elizabeth’s Concourse International Guitar Builiding in Belguim.
In 1975, he opened a factory along with his nephew Masaki Sakurai. After he died in 1998, Sakurai succeeded to the factory and ‘Kohno’ brand.

‘Maestro’ is the highest-end model made by Masaki Sakurai, with fine spruce and CSA rosewood. The sound is deep, warm and loud with bright clear treble. It is well balanced, and is quite accurate in pitch at every fret. The player must feel very easy to play.
